Exploring Spatial Prototyping for Automotive UX

Moving beyond flat UI flows to prototype mobility experiences inside 3D in-cabin environments.

Spatial UXPrototypingMultimodal

As mobility experiences evolve beyond traditional screens, I've been thinking about how future automotive interactions may need to be prototyped spatially rather than purely through flat UI flows.

For my ongoing project, I started experimenting with integrating interface concepts directly into a 3D in-cabin environment combining UI, environmental context, lighting behavior, progressive alerts, sound, vibration, and motion into a more immersive prototype.

My goal wasn't simply to visualize another screen. Instead, I wanted to understand how spatial communication happens, how feedback can be multimodal, and how emotions shift within the cabin as all of these elements interact.

One of the most interesting realizations from this process was just how much the environment shapes our perception of interaction. Even small touches, like the movement of the road outside, changes in ambient lighting, or the escalation of alert states, began to make the whole experience feel much more believable and immersive.

This experiment is still evolving, but it has been an exciting step toward thinking about Automotive UX beyond screens and toward more experiential and spatial prototyping approaches.
