Two Small Automotive UX Insights from Uber Rides
What conversations with ride-share drivers reveal about learning curves and consistency in modern vehicles.

I often talk to Uber drivers about the cars they drive. These conversations sometimes reveal interesting UX insights.
Insight 1 – Learning curves in modern vehicles
One driver I spoke with had been driving a modern compact sedan for some time. While riding with him, I noticed he was struggling to find a particular feature in the interface. That made me curious, so I asked him about it. Despite using the car daily, he mentioned there were still certain functions he wasn't fully confident using.
That made me think about the learning curve in modern vehicles. Cars today are filled with advanced features, but if everyday users still struggle with some after long-term use, it raises an important question: How intuitive are these systems really?
Insight 2 – Consistency in interaction logic
In another ride, I spoke with a driver using a fully electric sedan. What stood out was how different the interaction logic felt compared to many conventional vehicles.
Across the industry, each car model tends to introduce its own design logic. While innovation is important, too much variation can create friction, especially for ride-share drivers who often switch between vehicles.
It makes me wonder whether some core vehicle interactions could benefit from greater consistency across models.
Sometimes the most interesting UX insights come not from formal studies, but from simple conversations with people who interact with these systems every day.
